The Course Application Process: September – December 2008

Please note some course details may be subject to change, so please continue to check the courses section of the website for up to date course information.

1. Course applications can be submitted online or by returning the paper application enclosed with your course planner by the closing date of: Monday 7th July 2008 for September courses. Applications for October, November and December should be sent as soon as possible after this date to:

Dental Courses Secretary
Dept for NHS Postgraduate Medical and Dental Education
Willow Terrace Road
University of Leeds
Leeds LS2 9JT

Tel: 0113 343 1527
Fax: 0113 343 1531

2. In July following the closing date, places will be allocated.

3. During August 2008 you will receive written confirmation of your application. You will receive one report, indicating the outcome of your course application and you will be provided with two copies; one to return to the Deanery and one to keep for your own records.

The first section of your report will indicate those courses which you have been successful in gaining a place on; providing details of any fee applicable against each. The second section indicates those courses where a place is not available and you have been put on the reserve list.

4. For those courses where you have been accepted, please indicate clearly next to each one whether or not you wish to accept the place. Return one copy of this signed form to the Dental Courses Secretary along with a cheque for the appropriate fee, for ALL the courses you wish to attend. Please make cheques payable to the “University of Leeds” and return payment by the the end of August 2008 at the latest.

5. If you do not return you report and course fee by the end of August 2008, you will receive written confirmation that your name has been withdrawn from the course and your place offered to another applicant.

Late Fees

Due to the large volume of applications received, it is not possible to contact practitioners individually to confirm receipt of acceptance letters or to continually request late fees.

Our attendance records show that non-payment of course fees is a good indication of non-attendance on the day and, therefore, it is important that you pay your fee by the date indicated. Due to the nature of the contracts we hold with venues, it is essential that we ahdere to a strict policy of refunding course fees, which is often set by that venue. In the event that you are unable to attend a course you must notify us in writing. The following charges apply from the date we receive your WRITTEN cancellation (by letter, fax or e-mail only) to the start date of your course:

Less than 6 weeks notice - no refunds will be issued.

More than 6 weeks notice - full refund minus an administration charge of £5.00

Please note it is your responsibility to keep a note of the courses you have applied for.
