Competency Assessment and Training

(Equivalence to Vocational Training)

When a non-EU dentist applies to join the list of a PCT, a VT number or exemption from VT must be shown in order to be given a performer number. If this is not possible, the PCT will ask the Postgraduate Deanery to assess an application to determine whether or not experience gained to date is equivalent to having completed a Vocational Training year.

To help this process to be completed without undue delay, the dentist must supply the following documents;

  1. A Competency framework completed by yourself, in accordance with the application form*.
  2. A current Personal Development Plan*.
  3. CPD Record and Copies of CPD certificates for the last three years (or since qualification if this is less than three years).
  4. Evidence of Clinical Audit or Peer Review group attendance.
  5. An up to date CV, giving details of professional qualifications (dates and places), employment history since first qualification.
  6. Character and Clinical References from professional colleagues (at least 2).
  7. A Clinical Experience Questionnaire.

Any documents not written in English should have a certified translation attached to the copy of the foreign language document.

A “tick list*” is available to download, which will itemise the documentation required; please complete this and send it to the Deanery (Joy Easby) with your application.

(* These documents are available to download, see the list in the right hand column)

In addition you may send any further evidence of your personal experience to support your case but copies of publications or documents that have not been written by you are not required.

PLEASE NOTE THAT DUE TO THE VOLUME OF APPLICATIONS BEING RECEIVED, THE PANEL WILL NOT ASSESS UNLESS ALL DOCUMENTS ARE PROVIDED
