Specialty Training

JamesAfter undertaking my Vocational Training here in Yorkshire, I undertook my speciality training as an orthodontist in London. I now work as a Consultant Orthodontist at Pinderfields General Hospital and Leeds Dental Institute, as well as spending time in specialist practice in Harrogate.

In my role as Associate Dean for Modernising Dental Careers I have responsibility for both Dental Foundation Training and Specialty Dental Training. In essence this means I am responsible for not only those training to be come specialists but also for those in SHO posts.

As we all know there are currently significant changes happening in medical training and similar changes will occur in dental training. It is envisaged that, over time, the first two years of post-qualification experience will be formalised as Dental Foundation Training. Foundation Training will aim to give graduates a broad based training in different clinical settings and specialties including time spent in secondary care.
