F1 to F2 matching is administered by the Foundation School during the F1 year. F1 trainees will be permitted to express preferences for particular programmes, and these will be taken into account so long as the principles of F1 to F2 matching are normally met, i.e. two years in different locations within the same foundation school; one year in a larger/teaching hospital, one year in a smaller/DGH (order unimportant); no unnecessary duplication of experience; all trainees to obtain experience in the care of acutely ill patients. Obviously it may not be possible for all F1s to obtain their first choice of F2 placement. The trainee will be informed as quickly as possible of their F2 allocation.
