GMC Registration

Provisional Registration

Leeds Medical School students should contact the Learning and Teaching Office at Leeds Medical School for advice on applying for Provisional Registration which is required before starting their F1 posts.

Full Registration with the General Medical Council (GMC)

Validation and assessment of all doctors is required by the GMC.

All F1 doctors are assessed using the national Foundation Learning Portfolio, either hard copy or online.

Satisfactory completion of all elements of the national Foundation Learning Portfolio, the correct number of placement assessment feedback forms (completed on-line), attendance at the mandatory Professional Development Programme sessions and the completion of the Attainment of F1 Competency form (form 5.1 from the national Foundation Learning Portfolio) will provide the evidence the Yorkshire Deanery requires to support a trainee's application for full registration.

The GMC contacts all UK F1 trainees via letter, email and text with generic guidance on applying for full registration. The Yorkshire Deanery contacts all Leeds Medical School graduates working as F1 doctors across the UK (via the Foundation School offices in Yorkshire or individually for those working outside Yorkshire) to provide them with specific guidance on applying for full registration as a Leeds Medical School graduate.

The GMC uses an online process for full registration application and will contact all F1 trainees in the UK advising them on how to access the application form and guidance on their website. All doctors can check the status of their registration by visiting the GMC's website GMC

The Yorkshire Deanery requires the original completed and signed 5.1 form, together with the downloaded Certificate of Experience (from the GMC website) for each Leeds Medical School graduate. Each F1 trainee should be given a copy of the 5.1 form after final signature. The original signed 5.1 is forwarded to the Yorkshire and the Humber Postgraduate Deanery (Jacqui Lewis). When the 5.1 and Certificate of Experience have been received the Deanery will arrange for signature of the COE and forward it to the GMC.

EEA trainees

EEA trainees working in NYECFS and WYFS hospitals who are applying for full registration should forward the original completed and signed 5.1 form and their Certificate of Experience to the Yorkshire Deanery (Jacqui Lewis). The trainee should keep a copy of the 5.1 form in their portfolio.

Only after full registration can an F1 doctor proceed to F2.
