Foundation Training

West Yorkshire Foundation School

The WYFS comprises acute trusts, community placements and GP surgeries based around Airedale, Bradford, and Calderdale and Huddersfield trusts. If a trainee is appointed to a Foundation Programme an F1 post in one of these trusts will normally be followed by an F2 post within the same group of trusts.

Also comprising the WYFS is Harrogate, Leeds (Leeds General Infirmary and St James’s University Hospital) and Mid Yorkshire (Dewsbury, Pinderfields and Pontefract) trusts. Again, if appointed to a Foundation Programme an F1 post in one of these trusts will normally be followed by an F2 post within the same group of trusts and adjacent GP surgeries and community trusts.

In general, foundation trainees spend one year in a teaching hospital (Bradford Royal Infirmary, Leeds General Infirmary or St James’s University Hospital) and one year in a district general hospital (DGH) in either order. A local preference-based matching will take place in January/February to determine F2 placements.

The WYFS has joint directors and they are:- Dr Oliver Corrado and Mr David Wilkinson.
The School is managed by Eleanor Monkhouse. However, Dr Corrado is also supported by Ms Kate Reuben and Mr Wilkinson is supported by Ms Katie Manuel .

55% of F2 trainees should have the opportunity to undertake a 4 months placement in general practice.

A web-based preference-weighted F1 to F2 matching via the foundation school website will take place in January/February
