Applications to CMT in phase 2 are now closed. Appointments made to ST 2 level will be for a 1 year rotational programme and those to CT1 level will be for a 2 year rotational programme. There will be NO more appointments made at ST 1 or 2 level which run through to ST3, as a result of the Tooke review.

If you are in ST2 from August 08, the process & timing for allocation to ST3 will be very similar to the process undertaken in March & April 2008. Details will be published when available.
The possession of PACES is not mandatory, but is clearly highly desirable especially if you are applying to a competitive specialty.
All the ST training streams involve one year in a district hospital and one year in a teaching centre. A few have a definite theme pointing towards a specific ST3 programme, most are still very general and will allow the holder to retain a lot of choice for subspecialisation. If you are successful in your application to CMT, you are offered a choice of programme. Your ranking in the interview process will inform the post allocation process. In the 2007 allocation ~70% of trainees were appointed to one of their first three choices. In 2008 this figure is ~80%.
It may be permisable to arrange a mutual swap of posts, providing all parties are in agreement, and the training needs are fulfilled.
