Neurology
This is a four year training programme with entry to the scheme at ST3
Rotations are based around five sites in the region which are:
- Leeds General Infirmary
- Pinderfields Hospital, Wakefield
- Hull Royal Infirmary
- Bradford Royal Infirmary
- York District General Hospital
Currently there are 17 trainees in the programme and these usually rotate between two of the sites and occasionally a third. In general, an attempt is made for consecutive training at each site of the order of one or two years at each. Trainees usually know which sites they will rotate through at the outset of their training
There is plenty opportunity in the training scheme to be exposed to all aspects of neurology as well as gaining expertise in all subspecialties and basic knowledge of neurosurgery, neuroradiology, neurophysiology, neuropathology and neuropsychology.
Encouragement is given to any trainee who wishes to develop a specialist interest or engage in research either locally or elsewhere
Each site has its own particular training and service demands but the trainees in the west meet every Tuesday morning with all the regional neurologists for education and those in the east for a local meeting. All trainees meet monthly for a study day
The programme is well established and well liked. It has a reputation for excellent supervision and a very good record of success.
