Cardiology

Cardiology training is a 5 year program.

There are three years of core training commencing at ST3 level to achieve competence in core Cardiology with the emphasis on skills such as ECHOcardiography. There is a two year subspecialty program commencing from ST6 to allow subspecialty training in either Adult congenital heart disease, Electrophysiology and devices, Heart failure, Imaging and Coronary intervention. There are also opportunities for Academic cardiology.

There are two Training Program Directors (TPDs) for Cardiology: Dr Ann Tweddel based at Castle Hill / Hull Royal Infirmary is responsible for Cardiology trainees in the Yorkshire (East) scheme with placements based at Hull Royal Infirmary and rotating to Grimsby, Scunthorpe and York District Hospitals. Dr Phil Batin based at Pinderfields Hospital is responsible for Cardiology trainees in the Yorkshire (West) scheme with trainees based at Leeds General Infirmary and rotating to Airedale, Bradford, Huddersfield, Pinderfields, Pontefract, St James and York District Hospitals. Dr Catherine Dickinson (Deputy TPD, West) and Dr Greg Reynolds (RSA) are developing the educational program.

The Trainee representatives are Dr Scott Garg (Hull Royal Infirmary), Dr Kate Gatenby (Pinderfields Hospital) and Dr Rhidian Shelton (Leeds General Infirmary)
