Welcome

Welcome to the Obstetrics and Gynaecology Yorkshire Deanery website. The Yorkshire Deanery serves a population of 3.5 million which ranges from a large number of inner city conurbations with a multi cultural population to rural communities covering the Yorkshire Dales stretching across to the East Coast. Within the Yorkshire Deanery there is the Leeds and Bradford Medical School and Hull and York Medical School.

The website is designed to introduce you to the Yorkshire Training Scheme and for you to take the opportunity to explore the different hospitals you could work in and the type of training which is available. We have a number of job descriptions available for you to browse as well as links to the appropriate hospitals to enable you to find out more information about individual Trusts.

The Yorkshire deanery has training opportunities for post graduate training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology for ST1-ST7, sub specialist training and FTSTA year 1 and 2.

Posts offering foundation level experience in Obstetrics and Gynaecology are part of foundation rotations in many hospitals in the deanery.

Specialist training in the Deanery programme is provided in progressive specialist rotations from ST1-ST7. In addition the deanery offers academic specialist registrars posts and sub specialist training in all current sub specialist disciplines.

Subject to satisfactory progress, training will lead to the award of the certificate of completed training (CCT). Clinical training is competency based but specialist trainees will be expected to meet educational and examination targets.

During training, trainees will be supervised by the deanery specialty training committee of the school of  Obstetrics and Gynaecology. The School's executive committee will not only have a consultant in Obstetrics and gynaecology but  deanery and trainee representation. Currently a training programme director is responsible for each sector of the training programme.

Within the training programme we also offer encouragement to those who want to follow an academic career with 3 Academic SpRs posts in the Leeds Hospitals Trust. Flexible training and inter-deanery transfers are also welcome. Research Opportunities exist within the deanery with opportunities primarily in Leeds, Hull and Bradford.

Most of our hospitals are within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales, Pennines and Lake District. There is an extensive motorway network and rail links serving the rest of the country. There is a wide range of cultural and sporting activities available and the opportunity to visit many historic cities within the Yorkshire Region.
