Welcome
Welcome to the "School of Paediatrics" and Yorkshire Deanery website. The Yorkshire Deanery serves a population of 3.5 million which ranges from a large number of inner city conurbations with a multi cultural population to rural communities covering the Yorkshire Dales. Within the Yorkshire Deanery there is the Leeds and Bradford Medical School and Hull and York Medical School.
The School of Paediatrics covers West Yorkshire and across to the East Coast, and is divided into three areas each with its own Programme Director: -
- Yorkshire East (Hull, Scarborough & York)
- Yorkshire West (Bradford, Calderdale - Huddersfield & Halifax & Airedale)
- Yorkshire Central (Mid Yorks - Pontefract & Pinderfields, Dewsbury, LTHT - Leeds General Infirmary & St James's University Hospital & Harrogate)
Specialist Trainees will be assigned primarily to one of the three areas (East, West or Central) and rotate out where necessary for specialist posts.
The website is designed to introduce you to the Yorkshire Training Scheme and for you to take the opportunity to explore the different hospitals you could work in and the type of training which is available. We have a number of job descriptions available for you to browse as well as links to the appropriate hospitals to enable you to find out more information about individual Trusts.
The School of Paediatrics offers training for the full 8 years from ST1-ST8 including a number of National Grid training programmes for those who want to sub specialise. ST1-ST3 trainees will be expected to attend the modular training programme (STEP) and subscribe to the RCPCH master course to help them pass membership. ST4-ST6 trainees have to attend the MSc programme which results in a higher degree at the end of 3 years. Within the training programme we also offer encouragement to those who want to follow on an academic career with 4 Lecturer slots. Flexible training and Inter-deanery transfers are also welcome.
Most of our hospitals are within easy reach of the Yorkshire Dales, Pennines and Lake District. There is an extensive motorway network and rail links serving the rest of the country. There is a wide range of cultural and sporting activities available and the opportunity to visit many historic cities within the Yorkshire Region. To find out more information please visit Yorkshire Visitor and The Yorkshire Dales websites.
