Flexible Training
The Deanery welcome the opportunity for flexible training in Paediatrics. The majority who elect to train flexibly opt for 60% of their time in training. The commonest reason being pregnancy and child care. If flexible training is to be considered, it is important to contact the Flexible Training Adviser in the Deanery who will advise on how to move forward and inform the Deputy Regional Adviser and Regional Adviser. It is important for the Deputy Regional Adviser to know as soon as possible if you intend to train flexibly as it helps plan the appropriate rotations. Flexible trainees are generally placed in slot shares or rarely as supernumerary trainees.
All flexible trainees have the opportunity to complete their core training and rotate into specialist areas during the last three years of training. All flexible trainees are expected to take part in on-call throughout their training. It is recommended that all potential flexible trainees read the College advice on flexible training.
