Recruitment To The SPR Grade

All Specialist Registrar posts, including Locum Appointments for Training and Fixed Term Training Appointments are advertised in the British Medical Journal. Appointment Committees are held centrally at: Yorkshire Deanery Willow Terrace Road Leeds LS2 9JT. Application forms and job descriptions are available by faxing the Medical Personnel Department on 0113 2331546 quoting the vacancy reference number.

Change of Personal Details

SpR personal details are held on a database at the Yorkshire Deanery Medical Personnel Department. It is vitally important that SpRs inform the Medical Personnel Department of any changes to personal circumstances ie change of address, marital status, next of kin details etc. This information is required for Payroll purposes and for emergency situations arising at work. It is also for the Postgraduate Dean’s database which is used to provide statutory information and also to inform the Royal Colleges. Changes should be confirmed in writing.

Medical Clearance

The Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust provides pre-employment medical screening for all Specialist Registrars. However, SpRs may be required to attend at local trusts’ Occupational Health Departments when commencing in post or when they rotate to them as part of the training programme. Please note that SpRs are required to provide information and/or attend in person when requested to do so.

Specialist Registrars are contractually required to give a minimum of 3 months notice to terminate their employment with the Trust. They should not assume that they will be allowed to give less than 3 months notice. They should forward their resignation letter to the Medical Personnel Department at the Yorkshire Deanery. They must also ensure that they have discussed their intentions with the Education Supervisor and Training Programme Director and that they have received a copy of the resignation letter. GMC / GDC Registration

It is a contractual requirement that you are and remain registered with the General Medical/Dental Council. You are also required to forward evidence of your registration (a copy of your annual certificate) each time it is renewed by the GMC/GDC. Any practitioner erased from the GMC/GDC register due to non payment of the annual fee will be suspended from duty without pay for up to one week to give the opportunity for restoration to the register. Failure to restore registration at the end of this period will be regarded as a breach of contract and the practitioner will be at risk of summary dismissal. (Honorary practitioners would have their honorary contracts withdrawn in such circumstances).
